Career Overview
Carol Tran returned to Hanna, Campbell & Powell, LLP as a partner in 2023 with a focus on the defense of medical malpractice claims. Ms. Tran’s legal career originally began at HCP in 2012, where, for eight years, she maintained a dual practice in the insurance defense and medical malpractice groups. During that time, she maintained a winning record at trials and oral argument, attended hundreds of depositions and other court proceedings, and authored thousands of legal briefs. She was recognized by Super Lawyers as a 2018, 2019, and 2021 Ohio Rising Star.
Ms. Tran brings a unique perspective from the judiciary, having served the citizens of Summit County as a Magistrate and Mediator for the Summit County Court of Common Pleas, General Division from 2020 to 2023. As a Magistrate, she presided over contentious civil hearings on a daily basis, utilizing a firm but fair approach. As a mediator, she employed an evaluative mediation style to successfully settle hundreds of civil litigation cases.
Ms. Tran earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Akron School of Law with a Juris Doctorate degree. While in law school, she served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Akron Law Review, Akron Tax Journal, Akron Intellectual Property Journal, and the Akron Online Journal of Constitutional Law and Policy. She published Recognizing an Academic Freedom Exception to the Garcetti Limitation on the First Amendment Right to Free Speech, 45 Akron. L. Rev. 945 (2012). She received the CALI Award for Excellence for the highest grade in her class in Insurance Law and Constitutional Law II. She was also a member of the late Larry Sutter’s nationally acclaimed Mock Trial Team.
Ms. Tran currently serves on the Council of Delegates for the Ohio State Bar Association, Governance Committee for the Akron Bar Association, and is an Akron Bar Foundation Fellow. But, her true passion lies with her work with Archbishop Hoban High School’s mock trial team, where she has served as a legal advisor for fourteen years since being recruited to coach by the late Jeffrey Schobert. Notably, Hoban was the State Runner-Up in 2024, State Champion in 2025, and State Champion in 2026.
In her free time, Ms. Tran enjoys spending time with her family, hiking and biking, nature photography, baking, gardening, and collecting vinyl.
